Hi!
If you haven't read the latest announcement from eBay Australia, then you are going to be in for quite a shock. EBay have announced that they are making changes to their policies on how we can accept payments for eBay sales.
The main gist of the policy change is that any payment method you accept on your auctions must be accepted for all buyers regardless of where they are from. This means that if you accept Paypal for International buyers you MUST accept it for domestic customers also.
Obviously this policy was introduced to strengthen Paypal's market share, as we all know that Paypal is owned by Ebay.
The announcement brings on a few problems, being international money order v Australian money orders, Australian bank deposit transfers v International bank transfers. Alot of these types of payments carry huge fees and charges to be accepted within Australia, which is why sellers shy off from accepting them in the first place.
From the outpouring of confusion and outrage found on the public forum boards, eBay staff have left word that they will seek clarification on the exact implications of these policy changes and will report back before the date in which these changes are due to take effect on the site.
Once the policy has been clarified sellers will be excepted to change their terms of sale to comply or they will risk having their auctions removed by eBay.
I will be discussing the changes in more detail in this month's newsletter, due out October 12 2007. If you don't receive my Free auction newsletter, you can subscribe on my website - www.helpmyauction.com
